2011 Museum Hunter Valley 'Coquun' Shiraz
Fifteen years in the bottle has taken this wine somewhere the young vintages haven't reached yet. The colour has softened to garnet at the rim. Dark cherry and dried fig sit alongside leather, forest floor and a savoury, earthy edge that only comes with age. The tannins have settled right into the fruit, silky rather than firm, and the finish carries on long after the glass is empty. Classic aged Hunter Shiraz, medium bodied and elegant rather than powerful, built on fruit and site rather than oak.
"Four trophies, a Halliday 94 and fifteen years of quiet patience. This isn't a wine you rush. Pour it for the people who'll notice what the wait has done."
