Sydney judges looked further afield
Prize Heads South - John Lewis - Newcastle Herald - Feb 2011 (672.98 KB)
Title: Newcastle Herald - Good Taste - Drinks by John Lewis
The 2011 Sydney show judging panel, was chaired by Brokenwood managing director - chief winemaker, Iain Riggs and included journalist and author, Stephen Brook as guest international judge. Two Hunter shiraz reds - the $45 current release Pepper Tree 2009 Coquun Reserve Hunter Valley Shiraz and the McWilliams Mount Pleasant 2009 Old Paddock and Old Hill Hunter Shiraz - took gold.
The Pepper Tree 2009 Coquun, named after the Aboriginal word for the Hunter River, was made by Jim Chatto from grapes grown on the prized Tallawanta vineyard, which Pepper Tree leased last year from the Roche family. Jim told me last week that the Sydney gold validated the decision to lease Tallawanta.
