2016 Limited Release HV Chardonnay
Hunter Valley (NSW)
The fruit for this wine was hand picked and chilled before pressing. The resulting juice was run to French oak puncheons (30% new) and inoculated for fermentation. Once finished, the resulting wine was left on lees for 8 months before being racked, blended and prepared for bottling.
VINEYARD / SOIL
Pepper Tree's Hunter Valley vineyard is in the Mount View area of the Lower Hunter Valley in the sheltered foothills of the Brokenback Range and covers 38.5 ha of plantings. The Mount View area contains 3 small protected subvalleys with highly favourable soils influenced by the large proportion of limestone in the underlying rocks. Terra Rossa clays over crumbly limestone and free draining red and brown clay loams cover hill slopes and are planted to red varieties as well as Chardonnay. Alluvial loams along the vineyard's creek flats are ideal soils for Semillon and Verdelho.

7.4 Standard Drinks
Rich stone fruit characters of peach and nectarine on the nose complemented by a touch of nutmeg and clove spice. The palate is long, tight and savoury filled with melon and stone fruit notes finishing with a crunchy, nectarine like acidity. A balanced use of French oak provides mid palate structure and complexity. This wine is made to be enjoyed now or over the medium term.
